Some interesting info about the free song download (Deeper Than):
Get your boxing gloves on and jump into the ring because Deeper Than is fight/love song! Sometimes you LOVE; sometimes you FIGHT; and sometimes you need to FIGHT for LOVE.

This song (Deeper Than) is an early, un-mastered pre-release mix from the upcoming JPT album "The Burning". We have a couple newer mixes that will be mastered for the the full release. The opening of the song contains references to "Dirty Jersey" -- a term that is used with the utmost affection from the band as they all reside in the state of New Jersey. "Dirty Jersey style" refers to the "get-your-hands-dirty and fight-with-all-you-have-for-what-you-love" attitude that we love about our state. Jersey does nothing half-speed.

If JPT gets the most downloads this week, the band/song with then become a FEATURED SONG/ARTIST for the remainder of the Windows Playlist 7 competition.

We just received some awesome news!!! Our song (Deeper Than from the upcoming release "The Burning") will be one of 50 songs in the Song Pool available for download for one week starting on Monday, 2/1/10 at 11:00am EST and ending on 2/8/10 at 11:00am EST. The competition is called "Playlist Seven".

So, not only is this the FIRST TIME you get a taste of the new album, it is FREE!!! Even though the mix is not the final mix of the song -- it will definitely be a collector's item because this is the ONLY place it will be released.

Nashville or Bust, Baby! (Day 4-6)

Day 4:
We laid down some drum tracks for a couple more songs, that may or may not make it onto this release (a new version of Waterfall -- originally recorded on Reason -- and a cool, totally different version of Lord, I Lift Your Name on High that you may have heard if you've been to an acoustic show recently). With all the drums done (Great Job, RON!!!), Gigs (Joe Gorgolione) finished up all the bass guitars -- all before lunch!

After lunch, it got LOUD!! Guitars, guitars, guitars, guitars and guitars -- Eli threw down tons of awesome guitars - thick & juicy, nice & tasty, totally rockin' guitar parts. Did I mention that we couldn't hear anything but GUITAR all day?!?!? Of course, Eli was like "Well, you know the best sound from these amps is only possible when the amp is turned up to at least ELEVEN!!!"

Day 5:
The only thing left to do was finish the rest of the guitars. So, Eli turned up the amps EVEN LOUDER and cranked on them until our special guest came. Billy Smiley brought in a BIG HITTER for us to help out with guitar tones, ideas and even throw down some licks -- George Cocchini (seriously check him out on Google and Wikipedia)!! I have to say that it was awesome and he was so humble! We are totally honored to have him be a part of these recordings!

Day 6:
We made some mixes to take home and hit the road - driving straight through from Nashville, TN, to home, sweet home -- aka Dirty Jersey!!! ;-)

Day 2:
We knocked out the all the drum tracks except for 5 songs. We were planning on recording 6 songs but it looks like we will be doing starting 9 and finishing 7 for this next release. One that is coming out smoking so far is a rocking "JPT" version of Tainted Love (made popular by Soft Cell in 1981). We'll see!!

Day 3:
Started off the day tracking the last of the first 7 songs... It's more of a pop-rock song -- so it's getting a little TLC. We'll be tightening up the rhythm section, adding bass and electric guitars this afternoon and evening.

Deep Thots by Mooki: Lyrical Frugality

Okay, so we have one song right that we are tracking and the song is rocking BUT no lyrics!!! Not a problem -- I love to right lyrics. Well - maybe a problem if I think too much about them. Sometimes it takes me years to get the lyrics "right". I'm pretty picky (to say the least) about word choice and structure for our songs.

Anyway, I'm about to sit down (during our lunch break) and try to pen some inspiring lyrics and we here a song come on from Gigs' Ipod. In my opinion this must be one the MOST LYRICALLY FRUGAL, ECONOMICALLY CONSCIOUS songs I have ever heard (I through in "economic" because Eli is studying Economics right now...). The song is "What If" by Creed; over 90% of the song's lyrics are the three words "what", "if", and "I". Wow!

Deep Thot by Mooki:
Who would have thought that a song could be so successful with 3 words (and not the most common 3 words for songs -- eg "I LOVE YOU")!?!?!?!?

Back to me -- word choice, structure, rhyme, patterns, oh my! This last unlyric'd song is ROCKING and my heart is that the words are the kind cut deep and take root and become owned more by the hearer than even by me.

God, use us and this song for years to come...

Nashville or Bust, Baby! (Day 1)

Working toward the band's third release -- the band moved into a house/studio with Billy Smiley in Nashville, TN (actually Franklin, TN); we'll be here through Saturday. We drove through the night on Sunday night and got into town around mid-day on Monday (yesterday). Around 3pm we began setting up drums and guitars. While Charley, an engineer, was helping Ron, Eli and Gigs get signals, mics and levels -- Billy and took a quick stroll into downtown Franklin (just a few blocks away) for a few errands. While driving around, Billy began pointing out houses -- "That's where Whiteheart and Amy Grant recorded. Oh and here -- Whiteheart recorded there, later the Newsboys bought that house and recorded, then Ted T took it over and recorded Mute Math there..." Pretty inspiring (and cool at the very least)! We stopped at Shuff's Music Store, looking for a special cable, and Billy recalled, "...and this is the first place I worked when I moved to Nashville."

Later we started tracking drums, bass guitar and guitars for two songs. Oh -- and George Cocchini -- stopped by drop off some crazy, vintage amps for the recording. George is a guitar GURU who has Studio Tech'ed ans Session Musician for Michael McDonald, Joe English, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, DC Talk, Third Day, MercyMe, Building429, Safety Suit, and MANY, MANY MORE.

And then we CRASHED being completely exhausted from the previous 24 hours of driving and getting set up for the recording. Looking forward to an awesome Day 2 tomorrow and totally excited about the rest of the week!

His name is Samuel. He's 8 years old, loves sports and music.

Here's the story right from his mom...

"Once I bought him your 'Call Me Red' CD, he started listening to it non-stop!! He took the CD downstairs to practice his hockey shots...he says it helps him shoot better.

"He also took it to the public school for his classroom's version of American Idol. He sang "Praise Adonai" along w/ the CD. I was actually quite surprised that he did it...he tends to be shy.

"We also bought one of his good friends a "Call Me Red" CD for his friend's birthday. We'll make sure we distribute the cards you sent and thanks for the shirt!! Keep singing his praises!!"

Samuel -- It is with honor that we would like to honor you as the FIRST inductee to the Hall of Tru Cru (Justpassingthru's Fave Fans). YOU ROCK!!!! Thanks so much for sharing and blessing us with YOUR story!

Justpassingthru is scheduled to begin production work with Billy Smiley this week working on material for upcoming release at an undisclosed place in Flemington, NJ.

Billy Smiley is known for being one of the core members for the Christian rock band White Heart. He was the bands guitarist and main songwriter since 1982.

After selling over 2 million albums with White Heart, Billy turned to his interest to music production and artist development. Tonight we are filming an acoustic version of Praise Adonai (which is by far our most popular recording to date!! check out our version on YouTube!).

So we're extending an exclusive invitation to our fans in NJ, PA & NY -- to come be a part of this filming.

We'll be using this video for 2 things:

(1) Promoting the first ever Sky Blue Women's Soccer Family Faith Day featuring JUSTPASSINGTHRU on July 19, 2009, and hopefully meet & greet with some of the team's players (who happen to be some of the BEST women's soccer players in the WORLD -- we're working on this...). Radio ads are already being run on Star 99.1 FM for this!

I believe we totally neglected to post on our official blog that -- YES, Justpassingthru won 2008 Momentum Rock Artist of the Year!!!!

We accepted the award in Nashville in later March 09. We were selected out of around 1000 indie Christian artists around the world by the leading Christian Indie artist organization, IndieHeaven. What an honor! What a great time we had in Nashville rockin out and being recognized by our peers!!

YES, we played at Six Flags on Saturday with TobyMac! Yes, we played in front of about 5000 as they waited to get into the arena for TobyMac! and YES we got a pic to prove it (see below)!

Many thanks goes out to Patricia (XO) who totally made this happen -- and to the other amazing bands that graced our stage on Saturday... Doug Elder and his band, The Wrecking TOTALLY ROCKED; as did Christian and his band, Article A; and Dave Pettigrew; and more....
